Featured as the opening theme song of Fighter of the Destiny 择天记 (2017) starring Luhan and Guli Nazha, Jason Zhang‘s ‘Stars’ does not disappoint. It didn’t leave much of an impression at first, but it eventually grew on me and landed itself on my Spotify playlist. However, I must admit that the first half of the verse is personally a tad weird, but a catchy chorus makes up for it.
Overall C-Drama OST rating: 6/10

I’ve been a little behind on Yang Yang news lately, but I think I’m caught up now! And instead of eating dinner, I have subbed the 8-minute short film starring Yang Yang and Zhao Liying for Kang Shifu’s Jasmine Tea. It’s so cute! I wish this was a full length drama! Who knew they’d look so compatible together? I hope they’ll have a proper (aka much longer) collaboration together in the future! 😊

Picked Flowers (十里洋场拾年花) released a batch of posters this week featuring male lead Peter Sheng and some stills of the drama that’s currently filming. Included in the weibo update were brief character descriptions: Ma Su as the gentle Cheng Yumei, Zhang Tong as the legendary tycoon Renje Shaw (also known as Shao Zuiweng, the eldest of the famous Shaw Brothers), Qin Xiaofei as the popular young actor Sun Min, and Peter Sheng as the kindhearted Feng Yilun. For more information on the story and Peter’s character, you can read it here!

Based on these posters, it seems the dashing Liu Ye and his leading lady Ariel Lin will be serving spicy in the upcoming romance drama series, 老男孩 Oldboy. On the production’s official Weibo, Liu Ye’s character is described as a pilot who has an infinite sense of security when high flying while Ariel’s character is someone who loves a cool and “hot” life and never admits defeat. Sounds like two strong — and hopefully endearing — characters that our talented leads can bring to life. Both have been absent from c-drama land for quite some time — it’s been 3 years for Liu Ye since his last TV series, the political/espionage drama All Quiet in Peking.

Modern xianxia campus youth drama Private Shushan College (私立蜀山学园) released new stills and character posters today! The drama is based on a video game of the same name. It stars Wang Yibo, Chen Yuqi, Riley Wang Yilun, and Hong Kong veteran actor Michael Miu (my favorite Chu Liuxiang) plays the role of a principal. I’m still a little wary about the story and its modern setting, but that dreamy poster of Riley is soooo nice 😍

The King’s Woman (丽姬传) starring Dilraba Dilmurat and Vin Zhang Binbin is currently in post-production. Filming wrapped up in March and since then, the drama’s official weibo account has been pretty quiet. But, they suddenly dropped some individual character stills today and according to reports, the drama is looking to air this summer on Zhejiang TV and Youku (which seems awfully quick, but I’m definitely not complaining)!

I’m sad to be writing this since I had high expectations for both dramas and really wanted to like them. Unfortunately though, it just didn’t work out. And, it’s actually unfair of me to group these two dramas together as The Hypnotist (被催眠的催眠师) is far superior to Psychologist (心理师) in terms of directing style, acting, cinematography, and the overall story in general. But, since I watched them both back-to-back yesterday and these were the two dramas I initially planned on recapping, it feels more appropriate for me to make one announcement instead of two.
In short, the verdict is I will not be writing recaps for either drama because they’re not my cup of tea. If you want to read the longer version of how I felt about the first episode of Qiao Zhenyu’s Psychologist and Yang Le’s Hypnotist though, then continue reading below!
